- Any club member visits another area 84 club will earn 1 point for the club. For example, if a member from Bright Monday visits Hi-Nooners, Bright Monday will get 1 point.
- If a member belongs to 2 area 84 clubs, he or she can decide which club to give the point to or give each club .5 point.
- Anyone travels more than 20 miles to visit a club (this means Bluff Country members visitRochesterclubs or members fromRochesterclubs visit Bluff Country club), he or she will earn 2 points for his or her club. Again, if a person belongs to 2 clubs, he or she can decide how to divide his 2 points.
- To claim your point, you have to leave a comment on this page saying (1) who you are (2) which club you belong to (3) which club you have visited on which day. (4) if you can comment about your visit like it would be great.
(2) Challenge #2: % of members attend the meeting
Rules:
- If 60% of club members attend the meeting, the club will get 1 point.
- If 70% of club members attend the meeting, the club will get 2 points.
- If 80% of club members attend the meeting, the club will get 4 points.
- If 100% of club members attend the meeting, the club will get 8 points.
- Since Humor-Us only meets twice a month, Humor-Us will get double points.
- To encourage clubs inviting guests, when calculating the %, clubs may include the number of non-toastmasters guests. For example, if 12 members attended a meeting and there are 3 non-toastmasters guests and the club has 20 members total, the club gets 75% (15/20).
- To claim your point, one member has to leave a comment on this page saying (1) who you are (2) which club (3) How many people attend the meeting on which day and how many members in the club at that time.
We will report the score here and will select a wining club for every 6 months and your Area Governor will throw a party for the winning club. How does that sound? Would you take the challenge? (I hope so.

Tuesday evening Yanling, Helen, Yulong, J.T. and I visited Bluff Country’s TM Club. We had a really good time. The reputation of that club proceeded the visit, and we all enjoyed the great speeches and people, and oh yeah, all of the great food!
Thanks, and we hope to get out there again, and to see some of you stop on over to our Club, thanks!
Bright Monday earned 6 points — JT is not an official member yet and Helen was making an official AG visit.
I am a member of Mayo Day Breakers. We meet every Tuesday from 7 – 8am in the Gonda Seminar Bolz Room 2-160.
Today I visited Bright Mondays at noon. It is a comfort to know I can go anywhere in the world and feel right at home at a Toastmaster meeting. Todays meetings was held in downtown Rochester at the Mayo building. Bright Monday members were very welcoming! I love to learn something new. I gleaned tips on how to effectively plan and prepare for a speech. Some members video tape their speech. They review the video to focus on what they can improve. I also learned that you can access meeting room set up and equipment availability on the intranet if you are a Mayo employee. You can “drop” your power point presentation into the meeting room folder. This helps tremendously as you plan to deliver your speech! Sally Davis, VP of Public Relations, Mayo Day Breakers
Shining ONE point: Bright Monday Scored on Challenge #2: % of members attend the meeting.
Following the first point earned by Sally from Mayo Day Breakers (Sally is a STAR! Thanks for visiting Bright Monday. You have brought energy to Bright Monday), Bright Monday would like to claim our first point made by the group. 13 people attended our Monday’s meeting, which was 61.9%. (Thanks Helen for her good math skills in addition to her thoughtfulness)
Bright Monday rocks!
Mayo Day Breakers scored 4 points on Challenge #2: % of members attend the meeting. On Tuesday, August 2nd Mayo Day Breakers had 14 members and 3 guests = 17 attend our meeting!!! We have 21 members = 81%
Thanks to Helen, Joe & Yanling from Bright Monday for visiting our club! You brightened our morning with your presence & wonderful home made cookies!
Thanks Juliana and Barb for your excellent math skills tabulating our totals!
Mayo Day Breakers meets every Tuesday morning from 7 – 8am in the Gonda, Bolz Seminar Room 2-160! Guests are always WELCOME!!!
Sally Davis, VP of Public Relations
Mayo Day Breakers
So sorry to say that only non-toastmaster guest counts
So 14/21 = 67% = 1 point. So sorry ;-(
Mayo Bright Monday scored 2 points on Challenge #1: Visiting another club.
Helen and I visited Mayo Hi-Nooners today. Thanks Hi-Nooner fellow members for having us in your great meeting!
Yanling, and Helen (Bright Monday), and Joe (Bright MOnday and Hi-Nooners) visited Mayo Day Breakers on 8/2/2011. We decided to let Hi-Nooners get Joe’s point and Joe’s next visit point will be Bright Monday’s
So, Bright Monday 2; Hi-Nooners 1.
We liked many things Day Breakers do. Neil was the only speaker – 15 minutes speech! During the introduction, I heard the word “Economic”. I thought for sure I would fall asleep, but his speech was quite interesting. Fifteen minutes went so fast. The table topic master, Rich , had several interesting questions and the evaluator Barb gave an excellent evaluation. Great meeting. We had fun! Thanks.
I forgot to say that Jeff B from Day Breakers visited Hi-Nooners today (8/3/2011). Mayo Day Breakers got another point!!!!
Sally Davis earned 1 point for Mayo Day Breakers by visiting Humor Us club tonight. What a great meeting! Monologue, stand up comedy, round table feedback, table topics and secret word of the day made the meeting interactive and engaging! The speech topics were near & dear to my heart: vacations and volunteering! It was a comfort to walk in and recognize familiar faces. Thank you members from Humor Us club for your warm welcome!
Paul Leska from Mayo Day Breakers and Suburban visited too. Since he is a dual member of both clubs, he said he would willingly give .5 points to each club. Thank you Paul!
Last night I visited Suburban ToastMaster club at Saint Marys. This meeting room on ground floor Francis had a warm glow about it with the evening sun coming through the west window. Great group of people! Thank you Suburban for the warm welcome and thank you George Thomson for the table topics tips.
Bright Monday Scored two points on Challenge #2: % of members attend the meeting.
13 Bright Monday members, two guests, and two sister club members Juliana and Paul, both from the Day Breakers, attended our Monday’s meeting, which helped us achieve 75% ((13+2)/20 = 75%) attendance to earn two points and boost the energy level of all that showed up. Juliana and Paul shared their experiences, and their presents helped build better connections with Bright Monday members. We welcome you come visit us any time!
Deana C reports that we had twelve members and three non-toastmasters guests (plus two Bright Monday’s guests) at Hi-Nooner’s meeting today, August 10. So 15/23=.65 for one point! Thanks for bringing guests to our meeting, Nifang!
Paul L. visited Bluff Country on Tuesday — I added 1 point to each of his club yesterday. Just want to keeo a record here
Helen and I (Bright Monday), and my two friends visited Hi-Nooner today. Although I already heard many good things about Hi-Nooner, this is my first visit. I really like this club. We are warmly welcomed by all the members, and Helen prepared also some treats for us. I enjoyed the whole meeting very much; here I would like to share a few of my personal thoughts:
1. I felt all the members were quite actively involved in the meeting, such as: during Joe’s speech, after he asked a question, two members volunteered to give the answer.
2. There is a session called “Humors and inspiration”. Since we also have humor contest, I am thinking is it possible we add some humor or joke in our club, too? Maybe use different style.
3. Helen reminded me to look at the flyer attached outside the lecture hall; maybe our Bright Monday also should have one. Deana, please remember to help me ask if I could get a copy? Thanks a lot.
I finaly visited Bright Mondays club. Enjoyed all speeches and look forward to visiting again!
Bright Monday Scored four points on Challenge #2: % of members attend the meeting.
We had 19 people in our today’s meeting today!
- 12 Bright Monday members, 5 nontoastmaster guests, and Jeff from the Day Breakers, adn Deana from the Hi-Nooners. (17/21 = 81%)
BTW -
we had multiple roles needed to be filled in the last minute due to schedule conflicts; however, the meeting turned out very good. Our first time toastmaster Jing Jiang did a great job in coordinating and facilitating the meeting. Horray for our wonderful Bright Monday members!
Thanks for visiting Jeff, and thanks for the comments.
Thanks for visiting Deana, and I thanks for your observation.
I wish we can discuss more and exchange our ideas on how to make our meetings more efficient.
I visited Mayo DayBreakers this morning – what a great opportunity and my thanks to Helen for giving us this challenge. I really enjoyed the meeting and the members were very warm and welcoming. I liked the way they kept their timer and grammarian sheets in binders that are available at each meeting. And I also liked the way they had their guests present comments at the end of the meeting. I hope I can visit more meetings.
REF: Challenge #1: Visiting another club.
Six Bright Monday (BM) members visited the Day Breakers this morning.
Everybody visiting other clubs has learned from their own experiences: the challenge Helen gave us had a more profound purpose than points. It is more about learning from other clubs and exchanging observations on how to help our own club become more successful. And we all agree we’ve learned something from each and every visit so far, no exception from this morning.
I have to agree, you all rock, the Day Breakers’ members.
Thanks for warmly greeting a group of us from BM in one single meeting. What could we say when everyone was so willing to visit your club? There must be a reason you all can be proud of. We liked all your three speeches; we liked how efficient you ran your meeting; we liked how organized you club was; we liked everyone took their roles seriously and did a great job; we liked your friendly environment…… I can continue forever!
The warm welcome from everyone and the smile on Jeff’s face made me at home immediately. Juliana suggested asking guests for feedbacks about the meeting. You’re great, Juliana! You didn’t miss any chance to help your own group grow. Sally, you were a star whenever you open your mouth, or even when you were not talking. Your enthusiasm is contagious and it helped me start my day with a joyful mood.
Thanks everyone from the Day Breakers for opening your arm and letting us observe.
Thanks everyone who reads this long post for your patience – I know I need check with my “timer.”
Jessica,
We enjoyed having you and your fellow Bright Monday members at our meeting. You brought so much energy and enthusiasm with you. Plus the new faces help keep the speakers on their toes. Too often, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the same old same old. All of a sudden there are new faces and new energy in the room and we are challenged to grow. Thank you!
Juliana
Wonderful toastmaster meeting today at Hi Nooners!
Barb Haner, Juliana St Helene-Kroft and Rich Hartmann visited Hi Nooners Toastmaster meeting today at noon from Mayo DayBreakers. Two great speeches with 4 table topics of which I had an opportunity to answer the question what I was doing last year at this time. I liked the way the times for the speaker speeches was done.
This is just an observation about club names in Area 84. I notice club names in Area 83, DayBreakers is the only one named Mayo DayBreakers. The other clubs look like they just use the club name without Mayo.

Deana Chupp visited Bright Mondays August 15. Enjoyed the brisk pace of the meeting and interesting speeches!
Helen, Bright Monday, visited Humor-Us on Aug. 18 – a practice run of humorous and tall tales contest. Very fun to listen to. The business meeting was interesting too since I am not familiar with all the formal rules.
I apologize to the members of Bluff Country for taking so long to comment on their meeting I attended. What a warm and gracious group of people. A definite “salt of the earth” people.
Did you know they even take a break in their meeting to have a snack!?
What a comfortable atmosphere. I am definitely going back for more visits.
I really did learn something the night of the visit. Getting a broader perspective helps me in my speaking growth. Thank you.
Hi-Nooners is reporting 4 points for our 8/17 meeting:
15 Hi-Nooners Toastmasters in attendance
6 non-Toastmasters guests
21 total
21/23 members = 91%
We also had 2 guests from Mayo Daybreakers.
Hi Helen:
Hi-Nooners is happy to report 1 point for our 8/24 meeting:
12 Hi-Nooners Toastmasters in attendance
2 non-Toastmasters guests
14 total
14/23 members = 61%
In addition, we were especially pleased to see you, Helen (from Bright Mondays), and Jeff (returning once again to visit us from Mayo Daybreakers) at our meeting. We really appreciated the extra energy and enthusiasm that visitors like you bring to our club.
Two members from Hi-Nooners, Farhana I. and Rick S., visited Bright Mondays on Aug. 29th. It was great to see a few former members of Hi-Nooner’s again (Allen, Helen, Yanling, … hope I didn’t miss anyone else); and well as dual members (Joe and Sadrul). Also, I was very impressed with the number of contestants challenging themselves by giving a Tall Tales speech (it was the club contest today). As I understand from Allen, many of the contestants were fairly new to Toastmasters as well. Very impressive! I truly enjoyed the energy, enthusiams, and entertainment today.
Bright Monday 08/29:
(13 members and 1 non-member guest)/21=66% – one point for us.
We had our Tall Tale contests. Fun! Fun! It was wonderful seeing Farhana and Rick today, and thanks Rich also for your kind comments.
Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of visiting the Hi-Nooners. Great animated speach by Rich. Very positive evaluations. All Toastmasters can learn from this club!

This afternoon Jessica, Helen and I visited Bluff country TM club, it is a pretty fun experience. We really enjoyed it. Actually from my personal perspective, in the beginning the purpose I joined Bright Monday TM was to improve my English speaking, communication and presenting skill, but today’s visit made me recognize it is such a fun experience to join TM club. Bluff country TM club, I will come back again sometime later
!
I had a great time.
Since I was delivering the contest forms to Bluff Country (performing my AG duty), I only added 4 points to Bright Monday… to be fair
Sep 12, Monday – Four points for Bright Monday.
We achieved 80.95% attendance, 16 Bright Monday members and one non-toastmaster guest. Today is Bright Monday’s club Humorous Contest day. Fun day. All participants did a great job!
The Mayo Daybreakers had a fantastic open house today with 7 new non TM guests and 14 members. Thanks to everyone who pitched in to help make this event a great success! Our treasurer is calculating the points, but I believe we may have earned 8 points. Bright Monday… we are slowly catching up to your points
Cheers, Juliana
Hi Juliana, you and your team have been running a wonderful club. Almost as good as Bright Monday…… I am joking. You folks rock! Congratulations.
